Four hundred years of clay, made into a vessel for scent. This is an incense plate in Agano ware, a traditional craft designated by Fukuoka Prefecture. Agano ware began about 420 years ago and belongs to the line of tea ceramics counted among the Enshu Seven Kilns. Carrying on that tradition, Takatsuru Yuta, the third-generation potter of Koushin-Gama, makes each piece by hand from the clay of his home in Fukuchi, Fukuoka. The same shape, yet the glaze and complexion differ on every one, a piece that is one of a kind in the truest sense.
Use it under an incense stick, or as a small tray. The contrast of ink and snow suits a Japanese room and a Scandinavian one alike, a vessel that gains character the more you use it.
• Finish: ink-black (deep black) or snow-white (clean white), each one of a kind
• Agano ware (Koushin-Gama, Fukuoka)
Please note: Incense is not included with the incense holder.

We make some pieces ourselves and carefully select others from artisans. Whether they come from our own workshops or from craftspeople across Kyushu, the standard is the same: real natural materials from Kyushu, shaped by genuine skill.
