The weave itself becomes the decoration. 'Minimal' is a floor mat woven from Kyushu-grown igusa in the traditional Morome weave, then built up to about 10 mm thick with a cushioned backing. Morome is a close, tight weave that gives the mat its durability and a plain surface with real depth, a piece that works by subtraction rather than addition.
Ikehiko has been part of tatami craft in Fukuoka since 1886, and its real tatami surface adds cushioning and insulation to a hard floor, comfortable whether you sit or lie down. Folded in five it is light and compact when not in use, and it connects into a family size.
