A Japanese pattern, cut to let the scent slip through. Kaori-no-miya, a workshop in Itoshima, Fukuoka, finishes each of these wooden incense burners by hand from hinoki cypress thinned from the Sefuri mountains, the range that feeds the rivers of Fukuoka and Saga. Wood cut to keep the forest healthy is reborn here as a tool for scent.

Its defining feature is a design that lets you burn an incense stick lying down: it will not tip over, the ash does not scatter, and it is safe in a home with children or pets. The lid closes with a magnet, so cleanup is easy and you can burn a stick down to the last piece. The hinoki's own gentle scent rests quietly over the incense you light. Because it is natural wood, the grain is different on every one, and on the days you do not burn anything it becomes a small piece of art on a desk or shelf.

• Size (L): W235 x D40 x H25 mm
• Material: hinoki thinned from the Sefuri mountains
• Base: flame-resistant felt

Sannoji Pattern: A simple, orderly design of three set lines. Stripped of ornament, its straight rhythm is the most minimal and modern of the patterns.

Please note: Incense is not included with the incense holder.

Why Are Japanese Rooms So Calming?

The answer is tatami. Its grassy scent, the way it balances humidity, the way it helps keep the air fresh — a natural flooring Japan has lived with for centuries.

Ikehiko Quality

We make some pieces ourselves and carefully select others from artisans. Whether they come from our own workshops or from craftspeople across Kyushu, the standard is the same: real natural materials from Kyushu, shaped by genuine skill.
