The forest and earth of Kyushu, delivered as a set. A handwork-only kit pairing waterwheel-milled cedar-leaf incense from Okuyame with an incense plate from a 420-year-old Agano-ware kiln. The incense is Baba Water Mill's natural cedar leaf, with no fragrance or chemicals. The plate is 'Sumi to Yuki,' by Takatsuru Yuta, the third-generation potter of the Koushin-Gama kiln in Fukuchi, Fukuoka. Each is made by hand from local clay, so no two pieces share the same face of ink-black or snow-white.

Because the thing you burn and the vessel that holds it come together from the start, you can begin the day it arrives, even if incense is new to you. Materials and vessel alike are all made in Fukuoka. A bit of Kyushu, sent across the sea.

Contents:
• 90 g cedar-leaf incense
• Agano-ware 'Sumi to Yuki' incense plate (ink-black or snow-white, each one of a kind)

Made by Baba Water Mill
Deep in the mountains of Yame, Fukuoka, a husband and wife still grind cedar and tabu leaves by waterwheel alone — no fragrance, no dye, no chemicals, just what the mountains have grown. Calling himself "the forest's cleaner," Mr. Baba lives by the seasons — foraging, fishing, hunting — in a mill built over a century ago. "As long as my body can move, I will carry this tradition on."

Why Are Japanese Rooms So Calming?

The answer is tatami. Its grassy scent, the way it balances humidity, the way it helps keep the air fresh — a natural flooring Japan has lived with for centuries.

Ikehiko Quality

We make some pieces ourselves and carefully select others from artisans. Whether they come from our own workshops or from craftspeople across Kyushu, the standard is the same: real natural materials from Kyushu, shaped by genuine skill.
